Heidi de Kock and Almon Horne
Heidi was born in Cape Town and worked as a residential agent in the Durbanville area. She loves the nature and the small dusty roads of Vanwyksdorp and there is no better description of “Heidi of the mountains”.
She and her husband Almon lost their hearts in Vanwyksdorp in 2004 when they bought a 3.4ha property next to the Groot River on an email from a friend. A month later they visited Vanwyksdorp for the 1st time and fell in love with their new property and called it “bush camp”. So much in love with the town they decided to take their chance and opened Heidi de Kock Properties.
Driving up and down for a year, the big decision came and they sold their property in Durbanville and bought a farm “Lusthof” at the foot of the Rooiberg mountains close to the “Water Fountain – the “Eye” as the Vanwyksdorp residents calls it. The kids were booked in at boarding schools in Riversdale. “We will never go back to Cape Town – we are free and safe.
Our passion lies here, in the mountains, you smell the rain and the “katbos”, you feel the precious diamonds falling out of heaven when it rains and to see this little dusty, forgotten town grow, is an amazing feeling.
I always say to the clients “take a chance, live your dream for a place in the Klein Karoo”. Now they are also the proud owners of the one and only “Vanwyksdorp Mall” where they sell clothing, shoes, agricultural needs and much more. Heidi will meet you at her office in the “mall” opposite the Buffelfontein Art Shop for a steamy cup of coffee and a “stoep chat”!
